All City Bee Savers hives are located near wildflower-rich forest preserves throughout DuPage County, Illinois. Our process is simple: we harvest honey from these hives and bottle it. From hive to honey jar, with nothing in between. We only extract each hive’s excess honey, leaving the rest to the bees so they can endure Chicagoland’s harsh winters. Honey is rich in antioxidants, the natural pollen of the area, and plenty of vitamins and minerals. Reminder: never feed raw honey to babies younger than 1 year old.

City Bee Savers participates in the Illinois Queen Initiative (IQI). This program is working hard to create an Illinois hearty honeybee. It is our objective to develop a strong, healthy honeybee queen. Her brood will have the immune system needed when battling the stressors decimating Illinois hives. Your honey purchase helps us breed the bees that will flourish throughout Illinois and surrounding states.

Crystallized Honey & Re-Liquifying

All raw honey will eventually crystallize. Crystallizing is one of the things that makes raw honey so unique. It is also why it can stay unspoiled for thousands of years. This phenomena keeps honey from taking in moisture from the air. Too much moisture in honey and it will ferment. Crystallized honey is also your way of knowing you have unprocessed and unpasteurized honey.

It is simple to re-liquify. Place your jar or bucket of honey in a pan hot tap water for about 20 minutes. Depending on how thoroughly the honey has crystallized, you may need to repeat. Never place honey in a microwave or boil.
