NUC & Package Assembly

We are hoping everyone including ourselves will have a good beekeeping season this year. This is my 31st year as a beekeeper. I remember purchasing honey bees for about the first 15 of those years. I didn't have a clue how everything was made nor did I have the courage to ask.

We put this video together so our Bee Buddy community and those who purchase bees from us, can have a better idea what is involved with producing new colonies each year and insights into how we do it here at City Bee Savers.

Some of our Colonies were moved to Florida at the beginning of the year to get a head start on building up their colony numbers. The rest of them were moved to California to begin pollinating the Almond trees. Both groups were brought back here to Northern Kentucky at the end of March where we raise NUCs and shake packages. At the end of April we'll begin bringing them all back to finish the season in Northern Illinois where we distribute them throughout Chicagoland. Once all the colonies have built their numbers up again they'll be able to take advantage of Chicagoland's great nectar flows and hopefully make some of that delicious Mid-Western Honey.

So far the weather this early spring has been kind to us. Unlike the last two years. If our colonies keep progressing well we plan to have the bulk of the NUCs ready for distribution at the end of April.
