OUR SERVICES
We are more than just a bee rescue and removal company. We truly care about this precious environment humans share with the bees. The more we know and pass along the better we are.
-
BEE RESCUE
All rescued bees are safely removed from homes and buildings and given a new home in one of our 19 honey bee yards. Even the wasps captured in our removals have beneficial outcomes. They are sent to institutions studying insect venom for potential medical and pharmaceutical use.
-
BEEKEEPING
We care for over 240 honey bee hives, many of which began as rescued colonies. After being nursed back to health, these colonies are placed into our Bee Buddy program, where they may go on to produce honey, support new beekeepers in the Chicago area, or become part of our Northern Illinois queen-rearing program.
-
BEE BUDDYS
The Bee Buddy program connects Chicagoland individuals, families, and groups with a deeper understanding of honey bees—and the vital role all pollinators play in our shared environment. Membership includes products from the hive and an invitation to our summer Honey Fest, where you can look inside a working hive with our beekeepers and experience a live honey harvest.
-
HONEY
Honey bees do make honey and healthy honey bees make a lot of honey. While it wasn't our original intention to produce honey for sale we soon learned if we didn't sell it we'd quickly run out of space to store it. You can find us at over 75 summer farmer market events where our honey is one hot item. Or you can purchase it directly from us at our grab and go honey pick-up box always available.
-
EDUCATION
While its important to know as much as we can about honey bees it is also vitally important to pass this information along. You can find us teaching beekeeping classes in the spring, talking to schools, community groups and garden clubs about our bee rich environment.
-
QUEEN REARING
There is a great concern throughout the beekeeping community that our bees are struggling. All of the scientists agree that it is important that we locate those bees that are figuring it out and breed future bees from this group. That is what we do at City Bee Savers. It's our goal to get these queens in to as many beekeeper hands as possible.
